The Jaguar E-Type is widely acknowledged as one of the most beautiful cars ever built and in the 1960’s it must have seemed out of this world.
Launched at the 1961 Geneva Motorshow the E-Type was an instant global sensation with sporting lines aerodynamically formed in the same fashion as fighter planes, a screaming 150mph top speed all with a price tag that didn’t break the bank.
The newcomer's design owed much to that of the incredibly successful racing D Type; a monocoque tub forming the main structure, while a tubular spaceframe extended forwards to support the now legendary 3.8 litre, 265hp straight six engine.
The beautifully restored and very early RHD Roadster offered here is exceptionally rare.
Colloquially known as a flat-floor, delivered new by Cycle & Carriage Jaguar, Singapore in October of 1961 this stunning E Type is so special because nearly all of these early cars were built for LHD export markets. It also still features its original cut-in bonnet louvers and signature flat floor.
Regarded amongst collectors as the most pure E Type’s ever made these early cars feature lightweight peaked seats and covered headlights which are still correctly fitted to this car and the sequential generations of E Type eventually lost, along with the punchy 3.8 litre engine.
Restored over a number of years and completed in 1997 to the highest of standards this car importantly still features its original period Radiomobile radio mounted to the signature Series 1 aluminium dash, period correct TripleX glass, still fitted to each window including the windscreen and the plush pile carpets, seat trims, Smiths instrumentation, space age toggle switches even the leaping cat embossed seat belts all in mint condition and all still present. All tell-tale signs of a truly cherished and very collectable car.
Subtly upgraded with a sporting theme in mind this E Type features triple lace chrome wire wheels and a stunning stainless steel exhaust system making this timeless classic not only carry a striking road presence but also deliver brilliant performance with a soundtrack to match.
Only just released from a private collection for the past 8 years with further long term ownership prior, this stunning E Type Series 1 Roadster is finished in its original colour combination of Cream with contrasting Red Connolly hide leather interior and Black mohair soft top.
Accompanying the car is the paperback maintenance booklet, a detailed parts folder as well as the original tool kit so often lost and the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate of Authenticity.
With the recent upsurge in global interest in these already immensely desirable cars, it is incredibly rare, seldom offered for sale, beautifully restored and ready to drive examples like this that are leading the charge.
One of the finest right hand drive, flat-floor E-Types in the country this leaping cat will not be available for long.
