The Mercedes-Benz 280 SL began production, in December 1967 and continued through to March 1971 with little change. Known as the 'Pagoda Roof' the roadster coupe; is as popular today as when it was first produced.
The unmistakable shape of the Pagoda is easily recognisable and is still one of the best looking Mercedes-Benz's around. 48,912 inits where produced in Stuttgart from 1963-71. Popular in both Europe and the United States the SL models are becoming very collectible, so much so that some European models have been imported by collectors in the States as gray-market imports.This superb Australian delivered Mercedes-Benz 280 SL 'Pagoda' was registered on the 2nd December 1968 to a Mrs Butterworth of Lane Cove Sydney. Factory optioned in Deep Red with Parchment MB Tex trim and black soft top, accompanied with a factory hardtop, now painted in classic MB Ivory gives it that classic period pagoda look. This car is accompanied by a large history. The books are documented from first delivery with every service stamp showing mileage at and date of service. It has had a full engine rebuild in 2004 which is also noted in the handbooks.
Having the correct provenance on hand for such a collectible car makes it easy to see the car was maintained correctly and fastidiously. A new soft top was fitted in 2010 to this car and recently serviced this car is ready for its new home. With soft and hard tops the Pagoda is an all year round classic that is as at home in city traffic as it is on the open road.
These timeless cars are one of the easiest classics to use in modern day traffic as they come with many modern day features, which includes power steering, fuel injection and disc brakes which we all take for granted these days. This car also benefits as it is fitted with air conditioning for those hot summer days.
