The stunningly handsome and incredibly rapid Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer aka 512 BB was introduced at the Paris Auto Show in October of 1976. '512' = 5 litres and flat 12 cylinder power unit, the same that featured in Ferrari's F1 cars.

Successor to the 365 GT4 BB the 512 BB offered upgrades to Pininfarina's original design that included a new front chin spoiler, NACA intakes on the flanks, a new twin plate clutch to handle the new masses of torque and four, very neat signature round taillights in place the previous six.

Road & Track magazine branded the 512 BB "the best all-around sports and GT car we've tested" in their March, 1978 issue.

In late 1981, Ferrari introduced Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection replacing the original carburettor set-up to meet increasingly tightening US emission regulations and although horsepower remained officially unaltered, drivers felt the car had suffered a drop in performance, so today early cars are the most desirable for their take no prisoners, passenger pummelling, brawny acceleration.

A rare car that pulls no punches, offered here is a numbers matching, carburettored 1978 Ferrari 512 BB in original right hand drive format presented in its stunning original colours of Rosso Corsa over Black skirts and two-tone Magnolia and Black leather trim.

A tourist delivery car sold to prominent Australian collector, Mr. Arnold Glass and collected from the Maranello factory on the 2nd of May 1978 this remarkably original 512 BB has to be one of the finest survivors of the miniscule 101 RHD cars ever produced.

Importantly this car still retains its original interior trim in stunning condition from the plush multi-way adjustable leather seats, crystal clear Veglia Borletti fire-red instrumentation, correct AWA stereo so often replaced, blemish free and original leather wrapped Momo steering wheel, original carpets and well preserved acrylic gear shift ball, even the Concessionaires decal is still fitted to the rear window.

For the exterior, the panel fit and finish is skin tight and was subject to a professional re-paint in correct Rosso Corsa and Satin Black in 2011.

Small but significant details like the correct Vitolan wing mirrors, hard to find Cromodora alloys, the original Saint Gobain Glass and correct badging are all indicative of the meticulous way this car has been maintained.

Corresponding with the detailed history portfolio, in 2011 the engine also received a zero expense spared overhaul with works including the removal of both cylinder heads, new valve stem seats, the renewal of all exhaust valves, that tappet shims were adjusted and reset, head gaskets and seals were replaced and both timing belts and tensioners replaced.

The carburettors were re-built simultaneously, a new exhaust system heat wrap was applied in place of the original with the original mufflers checked for free flow and the air-conditioning receiver was replaced as well.

The end result delivered a as per factory specifications; mountains of torque, an exhaust note for the masses and a drive that makes you want to drive just for the sake of driving.

Accompanying the car is the complete and original leather bound tool kit, the original owner's manual and periodic maintenance booklet held within the cloth/leather wallet, the 1978 factory sales brochure, two binders with service receipts dating to 1980 and detailed ownership history information as well as a collection of rare discontinued Ferrari books and even the March, 1978 Road & Track magazine that penned their fabled road test.

This incredibly special 512 Berlinetta Boxer has it all, unrivalled original and turn-key condition, great provenance and a detailed memorandum even we rarely find. Its significance cannot be overstated.

Possessing an engine directly related to Ferrari's contemporary Formula 1 unit, the 512 BB was one of the most capable and exciting supercars of its era and is still capable of delivering all the thrills that an enthusiastic owner-driver could ever wish for.
