Porsche launched the 911 Type 996 GT3 Gen 1 in 1998, updating both technology and design in 2003 with the release of the 996 GT3 Gen 2. These were the very first GT3's on the market for Porsche.

With countless tangible benefits in terms of speed and outright grip, the Gen 2 cars are quickly becoming one of the most sought after 911's because of its fabled mezger engine and low production numbers, with just 71 cars ever arriving on Australian shores and even less left today.

Technological updates for the Gen 2 GT3 included GT3-specific brakes and wheels, wider tyres, oil cooler, stronger synchro's for the gearbox, and more aggressive suspension delivering an all out bone tinglingly good drive on both road and track.

More importantly, horsepower increased from 355 to 375 hp in the Gen 2 edition, allowing the GT3 to despatch 0-100 in an eye bulging 3.8 seconds. The 911 GT3 was better than ever and in comparison to its next 2 generations of kin is arguably a better driver's car.

Australian delivered in December of 2003 by Porsche Centre Sydney South this stunning Gen 2 GT3 was ordered in the more usable Touring specification in uber sleek Atlas Grey over rare black leather Clubsport seats.

Incredibly well maintained and travelling just 21,000 kilometres since new the options list for this car includes Cruise control, Air-conditioning, the Litronic Headlight system, stainless steel entry cards, Porsche CDR 23 Radio, and seat belts in Guards Red with everything in overall refreshingly and unbelievably original condition.

The ageless paintwork highlights the subtle, classically styled 996 lines, the panel fit is skin tight and the overall road presence is as though it rolled out of the Porsche showroom yesterday.

The same goes for the cockpit, it's easy to see how well this example has been maintained. The factory matte finish on the shift knob hand-brake leaver and steering wheel is still present and looks and feels new, the small white text on all the original switchgear is crystal clear, the original carpets are still perfectly plush and the new Porsche smell is still in the air.

This is without a doubt one of the most original 996 GT3's we've ever seen.

The car benefits from a Porsche service history, the most recent in February of this year and is accompanied by its original leather bound log books, both keys and Porsche certificate of authenticity.

This GT3 feels light, alert and perfectly agile. Its deep and raspy exhaust wail is one of the most mesmerizing Porsche soundtracks ever produced and as the GT3 realises a future of PDK, turbocharging and electronic driver assistance, the manual transmission/naturally aspirated 996 generation is poised to soar skyward in value.

These cars are so fast, so durable and so much fun to drive and this simply stunning example represents a rare and exciting investment opportunity and a classic Porsche drive.
