When the most dynamic, imitated, and engaging hot hatch of all-time hits middle age, there's no better way to celebrate than to release a limited edition model.

Volkswagen did just that by building the 2016 Golf GTI 40th Anniversary edition (rubs hands together) reworking the turbocharger, remapping the standard 2.0 litre engine and fuel pump, adding a high-flow exhaust, larger brake rotors and an aero-kit.

All go fast-er bits that made sure a variant of this legend took the front-wheel drive lap-record at the Nuerburgring, the world's media calling this edition a hyper hatch.

Cosmetically the 40th Anniversary features a new-look front bumper with larger air intakes, larger sill covers, a revised rear bumper with lift-reducing diffuser and two-piece rear roof spoiler, black body stripes, darkened LED tail-lights, 19 inch Ruby alloys, Honeycomb cloth and Alcantara combination upholstery, Alcantara steering wheel and black-painted mirror scalps and roof skin.

On-board tech was uprated too with added autonomous emergency braking, a progressive variable-speed steering rack, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and rear traffic alert.

The car on offer has travelled just 3,000 kilometres since its Sydney City Volkswagen delivery to the first and only owner and is optioned with the must have manual transmission and hero colour combination of Pure White and Black.

Presenting in as new condition, accompanying the car are both factory keys and the leather bound service and owner's manuals.

Applauded by international motoring media as the best, most explosive and most liveable front-wheel drive hot hatch on offer this rare, limited edition 40th Anniversary Golf GTI is pound for pound the best value hyper-hatch available today.
