If ever a classic sports car took Britain’s passion for motorsport and planted it into the timber steering-wheel wielding and leather glove sporting weekend driver’s hands, it was the Austin Healey 3000 Phase III.

Launched in 1959, the Austin Healey is a low slung, stylish brute of a sportscar with a raw style of power delivery that’s helped it to amass a global cult following and fill scores of trophy cabinets in the process.

Equipped with super torquey performance, roll-up side windows, chrome wire wheels and an easily operable soft top the Austin Healey to own, drive and collect is the Phase III. This was also the very last model to leave the production line before the company closed its doors in 1968.

Fitted with a potent 2.9 litre 150 hp 6-cylinder engine and 4 speed manual overdrive transmission, as well as disc brakes this “last of/best of” edition also featured chassis and handling upgrades increasing top speed to 121mph and lowering the 0-60mph time below 10 seconds.

The 3000 Phase III BJ8 offered here represents the last, and what many believe to be Austin Healey’s finest, model year.

Originally sold new to the USA in March of 1967 optioned with wire wheels, heater, adjustable steering-column, whitewall tyres, Black tonneau cover, laminated windscreen and overdrive this exciting car presents in good and largely original condition today with a few key upgrades to bring the car in to the 21st Century.

Finished in Colorado Red over Black leatherette, Black carpeting and superb condition walnut trim, just as it left the factory this numbers matching car was privately imported into Australia in 2011.

The car was then subject to a Right Hand Drive conversion. A bolt off – bolt on conversion including a new steering box assembly and walnut dash. All made easy due to the factory’s tolerance for every body built to be either LHD or RHD with all holes pre drilled and captive nuts pre-fitted.

Meticulously maintained and improved by a long time Healy enthusiast this car now features upgrades commonly made to improve the usability of these classics, sourced and installed by specialists Healey Factory, Victoria including:

• A spin on oil filter conversion

• Electronic ignition

• High torque starter motor

• An alternator in place of generator

• Cable throttle conversion

• Koni telescopic shock absorbers front and rear (over $10,000)

• Four piston wildwood callipers and ventilated disc brakes at the front

These improvements make a big difference to reliability, drivability and performance giving the next owner the confidence to get in and enjoy the drive and ownership experience from day dot. A credit to the last owner and an absolute asset to the next.

Accompanied by its heritage certificate and modern maintenance records, this last of the line Austin Healey 3000 Phase III BJ8 will be an absolute pleasure to own and drive.

There is only one thing left to do… Buy it, before someone else does.
