Karmin Red | Fixed Head Coupé | 4 Speed Manual | 4.2 litre | 67,969 miles showing | SOLD

Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961 Jaguar's E-Type will endure as the most iconic British sports car of all time.

People were writing cheques on the spot and handing them to anyone with a leaping cat embossed on their shirt. It was/is the ultimate automotive expression of the Swinging Sixties.

The reason the E-Type was so good - it was a road going Spitfire penned by an infatuated engineer with the gift of thinking instinctively and mathematically in three dimensions.

Malcolm Sayer was an expert at improving the aerodynamic efficiencies of WWII fighter planes. He was a key player to the Le Mans dominating successes of the preceding C and D-Types and his legacy, the E-Type is now a hero of automotive history.

Responding to worldwide demand, in October of 1964 Jaguar shoehorned a more assertive 4.2 litre engine over the outgoing 3.8 into the E-Type along with an all-synchromesh gearbox, stronger brakes and improved electricals.

The result delivered a mountain of usable low end torque and in 1968 stylistic changes saw the addition of new sugar-scoop headlights, revised tail light clusters and a new dashboard with rocker switches in place of the toggles.

Available here is an Australian delivered Series 1.5 Jaguar E-Type manual Coupé sold by Bryson's Jaguar of Sydney, December 1968.

Presenting in Karmin Red over Black leather trim this very original car is in outstanding condition retaining many important factory features like the original His Masters Voice (HMV) stereo, one of the very last cars to feature space age toggle switch gear, correct Luas headlamps and the correct "Jaguar" cast wire wheels with Michelin XVS period tyres.

Inside, the finish simply put is neat. The six pleat seats are snug and forgiving, the original Smiths instrumentation is crystal clear and the overall feel is solid and sporty. Outside, the panel fit is second to none and the uniform Red paintwork shows off details like the bonnet strakes and rear-quarter shoulder perfectly. All tell-tale signs of a very well maintained car.

Accompanying this E-Type is the original paperback maintenance booklet with delivery information and service history, the original owner's manual a collection of service receipts as well as the original jack and tool kit.

Visually this 4.2 litre E-Type is stunning, the drive is even better. Acceleration is punchy, gear changes are short with a distinctive mechanical feel and cornering feels flat and fast.

Rarely seen in such fantastic condition, this E-Type is not just a collector's item, it's the perfect weekend getaway car.

Excellently prepped for its next custodian this world-class, Australian delivered E-Type would make an excellent addition to any garage and is ready for your next adventure.
