Before becoming a silver screen star, the simple-yet-elegant, Pininfarina penned Alfa Romeo 105 Spider was introduced in 1966 and progressed through four Series’.

The first and second series cars are by far the most desirable today with the second defined by an exterior restyle that lopped the original car’s curved tail into a flat, more aero-friendly Kamm-tail and an engine size increase 2.0 litre.

Cliff Chambers wrote for Unique Cars in 2018, "Most potent are 2.0 litre versions from the early 1970s. Power output matched the 150bhp (111kW) produced by Triumph’s 2.5-litre TR6 and top speed reached the 120mph (193km/h) benchmark as well”.

No sheep in wolf’s clothing, technologically cutting edge the Spider featured a super light aluminium alloy 2.0 litre engine with an amazing exhaust note, discs at each corner, an ultra-modern coil sprung suspension set-up, aero styling and a short throw 5 speed manual transmission.

To put the Spider into perspective, the most popular British sportscar at the time was the MG B with 95 horses, drum brakes, leaf springs and a 4 speed transmission.

Offered here is a Series two 1974 Alfa Romeo 105 Spider in Rosso over two-tone Grey and Black trim in excellent driving condition and with an incredibly detailed maintenance file.

Benefitting from a sympathetic refurbishment in the mid 1990’s including an engine and gearbox rebuild by classic Alfa specialists based in Sydney and frequent maintenance ever since, this very original car has been kept by the same owner since 1993.

Recent mechanical works include a major engine service with new gasket set, timing chain, new hoses and accelerator links plus new synchro rings for the gearbox, a new exhaust and a set of classic MOMO style alloy wheels.

The fabric roof has been restored with original-pattern rear window, complete with all the right markings, the correct Carello headlight covers, enamel badges and timber steering wheel are all there and all tell-tale signs of a cherished classic.

Surrounded by flashes of the Alfa emblem and exotic Italian styling the drive is absolutely on the button. There are no tricks to driving it, acceleration is quick, steering is direct and the handling is razor sharp, just as it should be.

Accompanied by a detailed history file with receipts for major and minor service works this car is ready to drive off the showroom floor. Add a little classic Italian sophistication to everyday life. Incredibly hard to find in this condition and considered a true classic, this 1974 Alfa Romeo Spider 2000 is incredible bang for buck.
