Forever a celebrity, starring in television shows like Magnum, P.I. and films such as Beverly Hills Cop II and National Lampoon's Vacation, the Ferrari 308 is arguably the most recognisable Ferrari model outside of the enthusiast community. Produced from 1978 to 1985, the 308 was Ferrari’s entry-level sports car at the time, replacing the short-lived Dino sub-brand.
Penned by coachbuilder Pininfarina, the 308’s evolution began with a wet-sump (for the Australian market) 2.9-litre V8 engine, equipped with four twin-choke Weber carburettors, offered in both GTB and GTS models. Just two years later, due to emission regulations, the GTBi and GTSi were introduced, now featuring Bosch K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection, which produced 211 horsepower in European specification cars.
Externally, the car remained largely identical to the earlier 308 GTB/GTS, apart from metric-sized wheels of a slightly different design, fitted with Michelin TRX tyres, while 16-inch wheels with Michelin XWX tyres were available as an option.
Inside, the clock and oil temperature gauge were relocated to the centre console. A new black steering wheel was fitted, along with seats in an updated pattern.
We are excited to bring to market this Australian-delivered, numbers-matching 1981 Ferrari 308 GTSi in a super rare colour combination of Azzurro Metallic over Blu leather interior and carpets—believed to be the only example in this specification delivered to Australia.
Imported via Ferrari's official importer, Maranello Concessionaires, and sold new by Lance Dixon Ferrari of Doncaster on 23rd March 1983, this stunning example has travelled just 116,079 km from new.
It comes complete with its original toolkit and jack, service books and manuals in their leather-bound wallet, along with a substantial history file documenting meticulous maintenance by marque specialists across Australia. Most recently, a cambelt service was completed by a Ferrari specialist in Sydney at just 115,000 km in 2023.
The condition of this 308 GTSi speaks for itself. A thoroughly original car, it has received some sympathetic paintwork over the years, with subtle signs of patina that reflect its authenticity.
The interior is in excellent original condition, with the leather seats and switchgear fastidiously preserved.
Driving this prancing horse is a true delight. The gearbox is silky smooth, even when cold. The engine sounds like something straight out of an ’80s sci-fi film, power delivery is linear and brisk, and the absence of power steering offers unrivalled driver feedback.
An example with provenance, rarity, outstanding condition, a fabulous colour scheme, and a guaranteed standout amongst the sea of red Ferraris at any event—do not miss this opportunity. Contact our team today.
