Among the last of the truly classic 911 models was the Super Carrera (SC).
A landmark car within the celebrated history of Porsche, the SC was built between 1978 and 1983. It stood apart from the electronic gadgetry that increasingly found its way into Porsches throughout the 1980s and beyond, delivering a pure analogue driving experience.
As the fastest naturally aspirated Porsche from 0–100 km/h at the time, the 911 SC marked a significant evolution—its all-alloy engine saw displacement increased from 2.7 to 3.0 litres. A new oil cooler was discreetly integrated within the front wing, while the Thyssen zinc-coated galvanised bodyshell and use of high-quality materials both inside and out ensured it could endure the ravages of time. As a result, the SC remains one of the most usable, enjoyable, and collectable classic 911s today.
With generous torque delivered early, the 3.0-litre flat-six offers a smooth, sweet-revving character and a deeply engaging drive. These engines also proved significantly more reliable than the 2.7-litre unit they replaced.
We are thrilled to present this superb example: an Australian-delivered, numbers-matching 1983 Porsche 911 SC Coupe that oozes cool. Finished in its original colour of Guards Red over a unique Tan Herringbone fabric interior trim, it is optioned with air-conditioning and rear wiper delete, and—like all Australian-specification cars—features a factory sunroof.
Delivered through Chateau Moteur in February 1983 to a Mr Ross Raymond Snoswell, this 911 SC has travelled a remarkably low and original 64,500 kilometres.
Today, the car presents in exceptional survivor condition throughout. The interior is completely original and in mint condition, while the factory paintwork boasts a mirror finish, with only the lightest signs of patina as expected with age.
Accompanying the vehicle is its original book pack, including the service book documenting a superb maintenance history carried out by marque specialists. It also includes the original purchase receipt from 1983, as well as service invoices dating back to new—most recently including a documented gearbox rebuild.
To drive, the car is effortless. Each gear change through the 915 transmission is smooth and precise. The engine pulls cleanly across the rev range, singing under load in the distinctive way that only a Porsche flat-six can—guaranteed to bring a grin to anyone with a pulse.
In corners, the 911 SC defies physics with true rear-engined poise, delivering sharp, balanced handling, confident grip, and pinpoint steering. The cabin, complete with iconic five-dial layout and central tachometer, is a deeply satisfying place to sit—where any true enthusiast will instantly feel at home.
Addictively engaging and never, ever boring, this SC—especially in this rare and striking colour combination—is the perfect classic to get out and drive.
