When the 911 Type 964 was first brought to market, Porsche was keen to emphasise that, although it was patently still a 911, it was in fact 87% different from the outgoing model.

The new 911 design featured more integrated bumpers and a host of mechanical changes.

Displacement was raised to 3600cc, producing an impressive (even by today’s standards) 250hp, power steering and ABS brakes were now fitted as standard and the old torsion bar rear suspension was replaced with coil springs and shock absorbers. Careful attention was also paid to aerodynamics with a reduced drag coefficient down to 0.32, and with virtually zero lift stability and road holding at high speeds was greatly improved.

The 964 was offered in a host of variants ranging from four-wheel drive to rear wheel drive, non-turbocharged or turbocharged, coupe or cabriolet, but aside from the 911 Turbo and the Speedster, the rarest of the C2 model range is the classic 911 Targa.

A design manufactured between 1965 and 1992 coming to a holt to what would’ve been the end of an era for the 911 Targa as we knew it (until the 991 series revival), the 964 marks the last of the air-cooled original Targa’s and it is believed to be less than (10) right-hand drive Carrera 2 Manual Targa’s were allocated to Australia in total production.

The car offered is an Australian delivered 1989 build for the model year 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Targa delivered new on the 31st of August 1990 through Scuderia Veloce Motors, Sydney in special order Silver metallic over Black leather trim.

Since new this 911 has been exceptionally well preserved and fastidiously maintained and still retains its original engine and 5-speed manual transmission.

Today the car has travelled just 149,608 kilometres since new and has been serviced by non-other than well regarded Porsche specialists and Porsche dealers such as Scuderia Veloce Motors, Hamiltons Melbourne, Weltmeister, Weissach Sport and most recently completing a major service with Auto Coupe in July 2020.

For the driver, the 964 offers the perfect blend of modern practicalities and classic motoring, there is no wonder these 964’s are so popular. And, for the collector, the Targa offers the lowest production numbers of all the 964 Carrera’s ever produced.

Don’t miss out on this highly sought-after modern sports classic.
