Officially unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motorshow, the Gen 2 911 Type 997 GT3 delivers one of the most visceral driving experiences on the road today, a pure racing car with lightweight, highrevving purity and number plates.

Constantly modifying the definition of what a rear-engined sportscar can do, with a 20hp bump up to 435hp, the Gen 2 997 GT3 smokes the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.0 just seconds and for the first time receives Porsche's Variocam system hooked onto the both the intake and exhaust systems resulting in much more linear acceleration throughout the entire rev range.

The next most important change was a set of bodywork revisions that roughly triple the car’s aerodynamic downforce. A redesigned front end with lower and deeper front splitter and enhanced air channelling, whilst the rear receives a wider wing extending beyond its vertical supports and tilted down at an angle of 7.8 degrees.

There’s also new dynamic engine mounts that automatically stiffen to create a more solid coupling between the engine and chassis when driven energetically yet allows for engine isolation and increased comfort while commuting, the brake discs are larger and feature an aluminium hub to reduce weight which also allow for center-lock wheels, the same used on the Carrera GT, there’s larger and lighter alloy-wheels saving a total of 3kg’s, bi-xenon headlights and LED tail lights are also introduced.
 
Delivered new by Porsche Centre Parramatta in July of 2010, available here is an Australian delivered Gen 2 911 Type 997 GT3 in Touring specification.

Ordered in neatly styled White over Black trim this rare and meticulously maintained Gen 2 GT3 was optioned to extract the most out of what a 911 can deliver and features Porsche’s Active Drivetrain Mounts, electronically adjustable sports seats with Alcantara inserts, Hi-Fi sound package, Satellite Navigation, Porsche Communication Mgmt and minimalistic sports steering wheel with Alcantara trim.

Slip into the carefully preserved and totally original cockpit and the car feels immediately familiar. The driving position is sporty, the highly bolstered sport seats are supremely comfortable and still hold the factory matte finish and all the touch points from the switchgear, gear lever to the steering wheel show zero signs of age.

Outside, all tell-tale signs from the typically German precision panel fit and paint finish, to the tidy original alloys and all original Saint Gobain window glass highlight a prized car.

To drive, the short gear throw reminds you that the GT3 uses a race-derived Getrag transmission with heavy-duty synchronizers, much shorter gearing, a dedicated oil cooling system, and interchangeable ratios, rather than the Aisin transmission used in other 911’s and simply makes you want to shift more and more.

Then there’s the beefy soundtrack just behind your cranium, instant acceleration feel and rock solid agility that make this GT3 a pure driver’s car. There is nothing else like it and many argue its more engaging that the current model.

Accompanying this car are all of its original manuals bound within the leather wallet detailing a complete Porsche service history, the most recent in July of this year. From the now hallowed 1973 2.7 RS onwards, Porsche have always offered the purest, simplest, most exciting and rewarding hit of adrenaline fuelled motoring and GT3’s are all about going and feeling fast.
