2016 McLaren 650S Can-Am

The McLaren 650S Can-Am honours the awe-inspiring and fearsome Can-Am race cars that first took to the track in 1966. Produced by McLaren Special Operations and limited to just 50 examples worldwide, this special-edition Super Series model features exclusive enhancements echoing the spirit of the spectacular Can-Am racers.

Bruce McLaren strove to minimise weight and maximise power in designing the McLaren Can-Am cars of 50 years ago. Today, the materials have changed but the philosophy and ethos remain the same – a lightweight carbon fibre MonoCell is key to the 650S Can-Am’s exceptional performance.

Weighing just 75kg, the MonoCell contributes to a stunning power-to-weight ratio of 485PS (478bhp) per tonne, enough to accelerate the 650S Can-Am from zero to 100kph (62mph) in just 3.0 seconds.

The McLaren M1B debuted in the 1966 Can-Am season with distinctive red bodywork. To commemorate that inaugural year, the 650S Can-Am can be specified in Mars Red, a deep metallic finish that perfectly sets off the sculptural bodywork of the Super Series model. Inside, Black Nappa leather seats feature Stone Grey Alcantara centres and contrast stitching.
