Aristocratic by nature with film-star good looks and devilish charm, the Aston Martin DB6 is a celebrity not only to the motoring community, but to the world as a whole.
In 1965 Aston Martin of Newport Pagnell released what would be the grand finale of the original DB-line, the flagship DB6.The most noticeable changes over the outgoing DB5 were the functional Kamm tail and rear spoiler improved high speed stability, split front and rear bumpers, redesigned oil cooler aperture for the front valance, power steering, a taller roof line and longer wheelbase all combining to make the DB6 a faster, more dynamic gentleman’s sports car – yet an undercover agent as a more practical proposition.
Not only do we enjoy ogling this British marque but driving the car is an event within itself. In the confines of the city its luxurious and spacious yet once out on the open road and escaping the mundane, be totally engaged by the DB6’s brawny roar coming from the twin pipes at the rear, the revving 4.0 litre inline-six and the driver-centric cabin filled with switches, timber, leather and lights all whilst twisting through narrow country roads.
The car offered is a 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Mk1 in Sapphire Blue Metallic over Walsdorf/Oxblood Connolly leather trim still retaining is corresponding engine/chassis numbers and has been beautifully refurbished and is in excellent condition throughout.
Featured on this DB6 were factory options such as; Power Assisted Steering, Three Eared Hubs, Power Antenna, Heated Rear Glass, Two Front Seatbelts and Triple SU HD8 Carburettors.
An original right-hand drive car ordered new in Azure Blue over Navy Blue leather first purchased on the 11th of March 1969 by G. Hickson of Sonny Hill U.K. – original registration number RJU 979G.
After spending the next 30 years in the United Kingdom it was purchased by a gentleman in 1987 whom moved to Australia in 1990 and took the DB6 with him.
The DB6 landed in Perth, Western Australia in March of 1991 where it changed hands again later in the early 2000’s.
The Aston was then subjected to a refurbishment by classic car restoration specialists Vintage Motor Garage in 2002 where it underwent a body and paint refurbishment, a mechanical overhaul and interior re-trim.
Ever since the refurbishment the DB6 has been serviced regularly by marque specialists with it’s most recent mechanical work completed under 1000 miles ago where it had its cylinder head reconditioned and braking system overhauled, major service and a high torque starter motor installed.
Accompanying the sale is an original DB6 sales brochure/booklet, DB6 instruction book, DB6 workshop manual and a folder of service history and records dating back to 1969 documenting a genuine 99,789 miles travelled.
The final and ultimate incarnation of a truly golden period of Aston Martin engineering featuring Superleggera (super-light) frame-work, independent suspension at all four corners and hammered, rolled and whittled by hand body work, the DB6 carries all the hallmarks of a special sports classic.
A fantastic addition for any collection or enthusiast, ready to enliven the daily commute or touring the Hunter Valley on those weekends away, nothing can surpass the pleasure of being able to turn and say, “Let’s take the Aston”.
