March 2, 20181959-60 Microcar Collection
March 2, 2018White and Aqua | Roadster | 4 Speed Manual | 400cc 2 cylinders | 21,959 miles showing | SOLD
At just 3.0m long and 1.3m wide, weighing only 345kg the miniscule, rear-engined, cockroach-nosed Dart penned by Buckle himself was perhaps the most basic sports car ever built, forgoing even doors in the cause of cutting cost, weight and complexity but lived on to become a national treasure.
The 1959 Dart advert read, "You've watched the gleaming, racing 'specials' go by, dreamed of driving one yourself ... of being the envy of all your crowd because you're a 'sports car man'. Stop wishing, stop dreaming – your chance is here today! The cool, clean, low slung, GOGGO DART! At the lowest price ever for a 'special'."By shedding weight and shoehorning in a larger 400cc engine, the Dart was also the fastest Goggo, easily capable of reaching speeds of 100km/h and at just £675.00 the tight-fisted driver could keep up with more expensive sedans like the Holden FC.
The stunning Dart offered underwent a total nut and bolt restoration in 2005, completed in 2007 with each and every original part refurbished and restored to exacting standards.
Featuring a curved windscreen borrowed from the Renault Daulphine, aerodynamic enclosed head lights similar to the Series 1 E-Type, original Buckle, Dart and Goggomobil badging, two-tone White over Blue paintwork, Grey soft-top with matching tonneau cover and hand stitched interior trim this professionally restored Dart is the jewel within the crown for this historically significant collection.
