There’s little to no contest over what is the greatest classic sports car ever made but which E-Type is the best at putting Spitfire DNA into the hands of the classic driver?

In Classic & Sportscar’s terms of reference, the Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Litre is the Lady Di of classics: the vast majority of enthusiasts have an insatiable appetite for it and it is THE barometer of the classic car market.

We couldn’t agree more.

In October of 1964, Jaguar introduced a more refined and more powerful 4.2 Litre E-Type to critical acclaim. Not an easy thing to do after the success of the 3.8 Litre.

Retaining its original and unrivalled aerodynamics and sporting dimensions, disc brakes, and independent suspension at all four wheels the E-Type was famous for, the biggest improvement came from maximum power being reached at earlier rpm’s.

That translated to usable point and shoot torque, perfect for driving twisty backroads.

Atop the increase in torque, the 4.2 Litre also received a new fully synchro-mesh transmission, improved brake boosters and the interior was treated to new body molded bucket seats.

The result produced an uncompromising and more usable sportscar that has today become the most desirable and collectable Jaguar E-Type. A combination of popular early design and more friendly ergonomics.

The car offered here is the perfect driver.

Presented in the timeless colour combination of Carmen Red over Black leather upholstery this original right-hand drive and numbers matching E-Type was manufactured on the 26th of October 1964 and delivered to it’s first owner by Henley’s on London, UK.

That very early production date makes this rare car one of the first Series One 4.2’s off the production line.

In excellent condition, this E-Type was the subject of a sympathetic restoration completed over two years in the early 1990’s and has been preserved exceptionally well since.

Cared for and driven by the same owners for the last 30 years this car comes with an impressive log of receipts documenting parts and maintenance history, and was recently treated to a mechanical overhaul by a Sydney based Jaguar specialist preparing it for the next custodian.

Very original inside and out, thanks to our dry country climate, from the neat shut lines to the way the car rolls down the road on the road with period style tyres on its original chrome wire wheels this example is simply superb to look at and drive, just as Jaguar intended.

The exterior is neatly complemented by correct and original fittings like the Lucas tail light lenses, TEX rear vision mirrors and Triple X head light covers and the interior is much the same, presented in fantastic condition with all important details accounted for from the correct Smiths instruments, to the supportive bucket seats and their low-slung, sporting driving position.

Quick off the mark, sharp to turn into corners, and surprisingly refined on the open road, there aren’t many classics that can keep pace with this E-Type. Especially with that iconic exhaust growl.

Accompanied by its heritage certificate, extensive documented history of its restoration and maintenance performed over the past 3 decades and multiple Jaguar workshop manuals- all telltale signs of a prized car, this E-Type is ready to drive off the showroom floor.

With so few right-hand drive Series one 4.2 Litre E-Type’s ever produced and with even fewer surviving today, this well restored example is a rare find and just as Jaguar intended.
