By the 1950s, Alfa Romeo boasted an enviable reputation as a manufacturer of incredibly successful racing cars and beautifully sculpted road cars.
Establishing a reputation for producing small cars with big performance, arguably one of Alfa's finest arrived in 1964, the Pininfarina penned Giulia Spider "Veloce". Not to be confused with the lesser and more common "Normale".Enjoying the honour of being the rarest variant of the 750/101 line with just 1,097 cars produced worldwide, alfresco was the most Italian way to experience the Veloce's twin cam and wonderfully revvy 1600 twin carburettor engine matched with 5 speed gearbox and Girling disc brakes.
This was one of the best drivers cars Alfa ever produced.
Benefitting from a bare-metal and exacting restoration beginning in 2012 and completed in 2014, available here is a stunning and exceedingly original Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider in range topping Veloce specification.
Presented in its original colour combination of Nero over Rosso leatherette the sympathetic quality of this restoration is second to none. Wherever possible original parts were salvaged and expertly refurbished.
Photographs accompanying the car detail the entire restoration process; each and every chrome piece including the original Carello headlight bezels were removed and professionally replated, all brake and fuel lines rebuilt, suspension overhauled, each and every nut and bolt zinc plated, even the original seat frames were spared and expertly refurbished.
Inside, the finest details from the mirror finish paintwork applied to the dash, hand stitched leather boot perfectly fitted to the gear shifter and expertly refurbished original steering wheel are all tell-tale signs of the meticulous effort taken to restore the car, nothing is out of place and there isn't a more beautiful interior to sit inside.
Outside, the panel fit is drum tight, the original bumpers integral to the 1960ies space-age design have been brilliantly re-chromed, the correct Borrani steel wheels feature original chrome hub-caps with AR logo and the painstakingly sourced Pirelli Cinturato tyres complete the original aesthetic but provide great feedback through the steering no less.
The drive is simply sensational. Accompanied by a swathe of receipts detailing the engine, transmission and suspension rebuild completed with AR specialists based here in Sydney as well as meticulous servicing this Giulia Spider Veloce performs just as AR intended- well balanced with punchy acceleration and agile manoeuvrability. This car is unrivalled on-road.
One of the finest in the country and arguably the world, this beautiful Giulia Spider Veloce represents a rare occasion to acquire one of the most attractive and sought-after Alfa Romeos of its day, and one with fantastic performance no less.
At home during the annual concours event and equally as adaptable to winding country roads for weekend getaways, this rare classic is excellently well prepared for your garage and as values continue to shatter records internationally offers a great investment opportunity too.
