Phasing out the popular 190 SL Roadster, Mercedes-Benz had a tough act to follow. Success was on the horizon however, as in 1964 the classic Paul Bracq-penned two-seater luxury roadster coupe known as the “Pagoda Roof” was released and it is still considered one of the most desirable and collectible classics of today.
The rarest of the range was the 250 SL, secretly known as the connoisseur’s choice due to limited production between 1966-1968 where only 5,196 units were sold worldwide.Over its predecessor the 230 SL, the 250’s all new 2.5-litre engine had just a little more horsepower however torque was improved making the engine more flexible and responsive. Its performance was further enhanced by aid of rear disc brakes and a larger capacity cooling system.
With so few available in this condition, it is exciting to bring to market this stunning, fully restored, Australian delivered 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250 SL Pagoda ordered in White with a White Hardtop over Black MB-Tex and a 4-Speed Automatic transmission.
Delivered new on the 26th of May 1967 in Victoria, Australia to its first owner where the car was then sold 13 years later to a gentleman in Tasmania and painstakingly restored by its most recent custodian, this 3 owner Pagoda has been refurbished down to the last detail, including all genuine glass, wheel hub caps, Becker auto radio, genuine fulfiller cap, interior MB-Tex and its correct exterior colour as per its colour code plaque.
Accompanied with its original toolkit and spare wheel, its original manual, data card, brochure and a series of service booklets across three Mercedes-Benz certified service books this example is one for the collector.
So rare to find and increasingly more desirable this 250 SL will be a fantastic asset to any collection and with Pagoda’s filling up our request inbox, these iconic and popular classics don’t last long.
