1968 Morris Mini Deluxe

Celebrating 60 years this year, today the Mini remains one of the most iconic classics ever built. It’s small and compact design, thanks to Alex Issigonis, was perfect for residing in the main cities of Europe.

The Morris Mini Mark 1 was launched in August 1959 by the British Motor Corporation and was produced between 1959 and 1967 in the United Kingdom with Australian production continuing until 1970. Not only is the Mini just a car, it’s a piece of 20th Century industrial design haloed around the world and it was truly the first successful small car.

Offered here we have a totally original Australian built Morris Mini Deluxe Mark 1 sold new in January, 1969 by Dave Johnson Motors Pty Ltd, Fremantle in Western Australia and originally delivered as it presents today in Malmo Green.

The Sydney based Zetland factory produced the Morris Mini Deluxe up until 1969 and featured redesigned doors with conventional interior handles, wind up windows with quarter vents, hydrolastic suspension, key operated starter and the engine was upgraded to the 998cc version.

This numbers matching deluxe is nothing short of a true survivor, it is completely unrestored as this little Mini spent its entire lifetime in the super dry climate of Western Australia.

The exterior paintwork shows usual signs of patina from an original car that’s 50 years old yet the paintwork presents beautifully and the interior is a complete time warp with very little wear throughout.

Accompanying this Morris Mini is a swathe of original documentation dated from 1969 - 1976 including the original bill of sale, the original BMC handbook, transfer license documentation, service and registration receipts, the original comprehensive insurance certificate and modern service receipts.

An excellent classic ready for its next custodian, the Morris Mini today is considered an icon among motoring enthusiasts and normally a must-have ingredient to start or add to your classic car collection. Examples like this rarely come available as so few have withstood the test of time and one with excellent provenance such as this car would suit any discerning collector.
