Beautifully built, with luscious attention to detail and an air of indestructibility, when it comes to inexpensive sports classic’s, nothing can surpass a seventies Mercedes-Benz.
In a time when Mercedes-Benz build quality was driven by an engineer’s ballpoint and not ruled by number crunchers, the R107 SL series is perhaps one of their finest and they are rapidly gaining traction as popular undervalued sports classic cars and among them is the very unique and ultra-suave 450 SLC.The only Benz fixed-head four-seater to be based on a roadster and not a saloon, the SLC was produced as a homologation special allowing Mercedes-Benz to compete in marathon rallies across Africa due to its robust and reliable build, the 450 SLC is powered by a silky-smooth fuel-injected 4.5 litre single overhead cam V8 which produces 225 HP.
A perfect blend of sporting design and GT comfort, the 450 SLC was set-up for German autobahns, where it could comfortably extend its very long legs. Offered with air-con, power steering, power windows, leather trim, pillar-less windows and a sunroof, the SLC is nothing short of sporting luxury.
Offered here is a meticulously maintained and very original Australian delivered 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC specially ordered in Silver Blue Metallic over a rare Red Leather Trim and has travelled a mere 88,000 kms from new.
The exterior is exceptional, the body and panels are tight-shut straight all around, the chrome fittings are near perfect from the window surrounds to the front and rear bumpers, the paint still carries a factory glass-like finish and the wheels are as if new.
Inside the car features its original leather seats, plush carpets and beautiful dash and controls in exceptional condition, even the original Becker Mexico stereo remains, as if stepping back into a time-capsule this Mercedes-Benz has evidently withstood the test of time well.
Accompanying the vehicle is the original plastic MB embossed wallet holding the original books, receipts, two keys and its original jack and toolkit.
Possessing all of the hallmarks that make a Mercedes so special and rarely found in such outstanding condition, with incredibly low kilometres and great provenance, this very unique 450 SLC is something quite special.
