The European Car of the Year for 1978, Porsche's 928 was a complete break with tradition boasting a front-engined layout, futuristic styling and a new focus on grand touring.

The 928 featured an all-new 90-degree 4.5L V8 engine, aluminium doors, bonnet and front wings in the interests of weight saving and luxurious interior offerings like electric seats, air-conditioning and cruise control the Porsche 928 was par excellence.

One of the last Porsche’s to be engineered purely by Porsche, most notably, it was the first Porsche to utilize the Weissach axle which eliminated lift-throttle oversteer by allowing the rear suspension to adjust itself during cornering maneuvers adding stability and reducing oversteer infamously becoming one of the greatest handling Porsches of its time.

Last of the early 928’s featuring an uprated outperforming high-compression engine and the on the showroom floor today, delivered new through John Newell Porsche Centre, Darlinghurst in November of 1979 this very original 928 was ordered in Guards Red and still carries its archetypal 1970's tartan interior trim in excellent condition.

Outside, the original tele-dial wheels are present in mint condition and important details like the original Bosch headlights, correct ID decals lining the engine bay and original etched all matching Sigma glass is still fitted to the car. A tell-tale sign’s shows how well the car has been maintained for the last 39 years.

Accompanying the car is the original set of keys and logbooks, manuals wrapped in its original Porsche wallet.

As Porsche has pushed further into wider markets the V-8 powered 928 stands as a watershed moment. Undertaken as a clean sheet of paper project, its influence is felt in the Panameras and Cayennes that make up the bulk of Porsche's sales today.

A milestone in Porsche history, increasingly recognized by collectors for its superb handling, performance and comfort. In such original condition with its ultra-cool retro charm and now awaiting its next custodian this little 928 is something quite special.
