Launched in Germany in 1976 equipped with a pocket rocket fuel injected 1.6 litre Inline 4 Cylinder producing 110HP to its front wheels and considered by many to be the spiritual father of hot hatchery, the Volkswagen Golf MK1 GTi is the car you’ve secretly always wanted.
By 1982 numerous hot hatch rivals appeared and cries for greater power led to an upgraded 1.8-Litre engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission which allowed the little hatchback to hit 100km/h from standing in just 8.2 seconds.Following the engine upgrades, in 1983, the release of the ultra-cool ‘Pirelli’ edition for the German market and ‘Campaign’ Edition for the UK which was available in 3-door hatch body only and featured factory installed sliding sunroof, green tinted glass all round, matte black ‘A-Pillar’ trims, four headlamp grille consisting of standard lights (outer) and fog lights (inner) as well as the signature 14-inch Pirelli Alloy Wheels.
We are proud to offer this original right-hand drive 1983 Volkswagen Golf GTi ‘Campaign’ Edition which was delivered and sold new to Jersey in January of 1984 in Diamond Silver Metallic over Black-Silver Pinstripe and has traveled a mere 68,000 miles since new and with a mere 1000 units officially imported through Volkswagen UK, they are quite a rare gem to acquire today.
Held under single long-term ownership from 1984 to 2012 on the island of Jersey off the coast of the UK and France, where they don't salt the roads. This brilliant little GTi arrived on our shores in 2013 where it remained in Perth, Western Australia until now.
In exceptional original condition today, this Golf GTi has withstood the test of time. The exterior is unblemished all around and totally original, the pinstriped interior fabric presents as new, the dash and steering wheel still possess the quality matte finish and the signature ’Golf ball’ gearshift remains.
Accompanied with its original books and owner's manual, along with an abundance of documented history tracing the vehicle back to its earliest moments as well as recent documents detailing a service history of the last 7 years including a major service completed in 2017, this little Golf carries plenty of provenance for the discerning collector and is ready to go for the driving enthusiast.
