Originally sold in kit and factory-built form by Lotus Cars, from 1957 to 1972, it was in 1973 Lotus decided to shed its kit car image and concentrate instead on limited series racing cars and up-market sports cars. As part of this plan, Lotus sold the rights to the Seven to Caterham Cars.
Ever since and for the past 47 years Caterham have continued the Super 7 range with mechanical specifications varying according to the model year but usually featuring Ford or Lotus 4-Cylinder or in later models turbocharged motorcycle engines and thanks to their super lightweight space-frame chassis with stressed aluminum body panels their kerb weight averages in at around 545 kilograms making these little clubsports super quick on the tarmac. We are excited to offer this exceptionally preserved 1985 Caterham Super 7 1600 Sprint with an original 13,240 kilometres travelled since new.
A genuine car built at the original Caterham Cars factory in Caterham, Surrey in 1985 and imported into Australia in 1986 for the Melbourne Motor Show, this 1600 Sprint was fully ADR complied to Australian standards.
This Super 7 features a Ford Kent Crossflow 1,600cc 4-Cylinder tuned by Caterham and it is original and correct to the car.
Recently released from a collection this example is in outstanding original condition and has not been modified since it left Caterham.
Meticulously maintained this car is accompanied with its original tonneau cover and side windows, owner’s handbook and an extensive history file documenting service works carried out by marque specialists and even its original ADR documents.
Road registerable and eligible for NSW Historic Registration, this Super 7 would suit an avid enthusiast or would be an excellent addition to any collection.
