The Paris Motor Show in October 1984 saw the unveiling of the all new Testarossa, heir to the 512 BB.
Well, not at the motor show but at the Lido, a decadent Champs Elysees nightclub throbbing with romping models, CHAKA KHAN and presumably sprinkled with cocaine and Quaaludes. The Pininfarina design broke with tradition asserting futuristic and provocative shapes and lines yet the model took its name from the successful 500 and 250 Testa Rossa series of sports racing cars from the late fifties. It has since become one of the most recognisable and fastest appreciating models Ferrari have ever produced.
Featuring a hand-crafted flat 12 engine with four-valves per cylinder, Marelli electronic ignition and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection the Testarossa devours 0 to 100kmh in a factory quoted time of just 5.3 seconds- incredibly fast even by today's standards.
The "Red Head" remained in production until 1991 (7 years) during which time just 438 RHD examples were ever produced, a miniscule number meaning with time these rare cars become ever desirable.
We are pleased to offer this very original 1988 model year Ferrari Testarossa finished in Rosso Corsa with stunning Crema leather over Rosso carpet trim.
Originally sold to the UK this stunning car arrived in Australia in 2005, residing here ever since.
One of the finest we've ever seen, the near concours condition of this car is truly second to none from the contrast white stitching for the leather wrapped steering wheel to the signature Testarossa seats seemingly untouched, the crystal clear dash dials and buttons and the famous Rosso Corsa paintwork finished with the original alloys.
Producing 390bhp from its 4.9 liter flat 12-cylinder configuration and devoid of electronic driving aids, it is a rewarding drive for those who learn to master and tame this prancing horse. The generous interior and ergonomics make it extremely user friendly and reminiscent of a bygone era.
Travelled just 16,000 miles and with a full documented service history including leather wallet, this original example is one for the savvy collector.
The Testarossa epitomises the 80's era of excess and a time when real supercars only came with manual gearboxes. A truly landmark Ferrari that will only continue to appreciate in value, the Testarossa has a special ability to transcend generational tastes, a collection is not complete without one.
