Penned by the Pininfarina design house, powered by an F1 derived fire breathing Flat 12 power unit with chrome gated manual transmission and released in 1984, the Ferrari Testarossa was/is the ultimate 1980's style icon. A three dimensional representation of the age of excess, like a time machine the Testarossa brings Top Gun, Max Headroom, The A-Team and Miami Vice back and into the 21st Century.
With the iconic Ferrari wedge profile, huge side air intakes shielded by 5 long strakes, a thrilling forward driving position and a fender to fender louvered rear grill this Ferrari not only looks fast, it devours the 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.8 seconds.Rivalling Lamborghini's Countach for presence and pace, the Testarossa succeeded brilliantly. Well-equipped with air conditioning, electrically adjustable seats, tilting steering wheel and leather trim, unlike some of its rivals, the Testarossa possessed light controls and was relatively easy to drive with one chest pulverising exhaust soundtrack and looks to boot. This killer combination makes it one of the most recognisable and collectable classics you can own and drive.
The original right hand drive and meticulously kept Ferrari Testarossa offered here was produced by Maranello on the 8th month of 1988 ordered in iconic Rosso Corsa paintwork over Crema leather interior and contrast Rosso carpets and delivered new to the UK.
Arriving on Australian shores as part of an extensive private collection in 2005, this very original car has travelled just 16,300 miles.
Carrying all the hallmarks of a cherished collector’s car, inside the leather sports seats, steering wheel, leather dash and plush carpets seem untouched. The hard to find original Blaupunkt stereo and so often aged dash controls are spotless and the view from the driver's seat of the fire red instrumentation urges you to hold that gear for just that fraction longer on straightaways.
Outside, this car has been kept in the same fastidious fashion. The original Rosso Corsa paintwork carries a brilliant depth of finish and the bodywork is gun barrel straight. All tell-tale signs from the black crinkle finish skirts and front spoiler to the original Cromodora alloy wheels highlight a very original car, hard to find car.
Accompanying this Testarossa are the original manuals with service booklet and receipts for most service works, the car most recently receiving a new clutch and detailed Cam-Belt service with marque specialists based in Sydney at the beginning of 2018 and new period correct Pirelli tyres fitted simultaneously. The factory tools are also included with the car and so too are both original keys which is a nice touch.
With values and desirability of Posterchild Eighties supercars still on the up and up, now is definitely the time to buy a leading edge Ferrari's Testarossa.
Producing 390bhp from its 4.9 l flat 12 cylinder engine and devoid of electronic driving aids, with a tantalising chrome gated manual transmission, this landmark car within the history of one of the world’s best automakers delivers an incredibly rewarding drive for those who are lucky enough to experience it.
Excellently well preserved and perfectly prepped to drive this 1988 Ferrari Testarossa is a savvy buy, a collection is not complete without one.
