Launched in 1983, the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 perfectly blended traditions of its predecessors whilst adding flashes of modernity, comfort and amplified performance.
Incredibly desirable today for a multitude of reasons from aesthetics, usability and its exceptional precision and poise on-road but mainly, it was the car that signalled the continuation of the neinelfer legacy after its pending demise in 1981 because it was the one supercar that could do Clark Kent during the week as well as it did Superman on the weekend.
The most collectable 3.2 Carrera’s are cars produced from 1987-1989. Not just the last of the generation, these cars featured the fabled stronger, smoother shifting G50 transmission, the sports body with both front and rear spoilers became standard, 16” Fuchs wheels were optional and power was raised to 217 horses.
Available here is an exceptionally well maintained and Australian delivered 1989 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera sold new by Porsche, Sydney ordered in the dynamic colour of Linen Grey Metallic over Black leather trim and optioned with sunroof, air conditioning, cruise control, electric driver and passenger seats, short-shifter and the upgraded Blaupunkt Hi-Fi system.
The overall condition shows the quality of maintenance this car has received in its near 30 year lifespan.
The Speedometer reads 166,000 kilometers but both the exterior and interior suggest a lot less, from the soft-touch switch gear to the perfectly precise stitching across the original seats, the depth of finish to the paint, the clarity of the original VDO instrumentation to the exacting German style panel fit this car smacks of quality, one of the finest we’ve ever seen.
Exploring the surefooted handling and whirring purring, quintessentially 911 acceleration of this 3.2 Carrera is spine tingling. The subject of a complete and zero expense spared engine re-build to factory specification in December of 2017 with marque specialists based in Sydney as well as the follow-up service in March of this year this 3.2 Carrera performs as though it did the day it was sold new; a testament to the last custodians maintenance and an asset to the next.
With a few tricky camber changes, crests, dips, hairpins and sweepers this car breaths to life like only a 911 can. This car must be driven to be believed.
In accompaniment are the original owner’s manuals and service book bound by the leather Porsche wallet highlighting a complete service history, a compilation of service receipts the original tool kit and Porsche keys as well as the original Blaupunkt stereo.
Offering a unique opportunity to experience the totally uncompromising drive of a pre-driver-aided 911 and invest in an Australian delivered 911 3.2 Carrera in very original condition and with great provenance this classically styled Porsche is something quite special.
