Under the ownership of BMW, the Rover Group had manufactured and sold the MG F from 1995 – 2000. Due to its mid-engine, rear wheel drive and roadster layout the MG F was a huge success.
Lifting the MG F to a new level of performance is the MG F Trophy 160 Special Edition which specification derived from extensive racetrack action all around the world. The Trophy featured a tuned version of the advanced K Series Variable Valve Control 1.8-litre engine and a wide-bore sports exhaust system to develop 157 horsepower - over 10% more power than the already potent standard 1.8 VVC model.
Handling and braking capabilities have been upgraded with Hydra-gas interconnected suspension with a competition-based spring and damper rates and a 20mm lower ride height. The front brakes were all new AP Racing units with 304mm ventilated discs and red-finished MG-branded aluminium callipers.
Only offered on the Trophy were special 16-inch multi-spoke designs wheels along with a new front spoiler and rear deck spoiler to reduce aerodynamic drag and lift.
If you bought one new you had the option to choose between its hero colours; Trophy Yellow and Trophy Blue OR Solar Red and Anthracite Black. The interior featured body coloured inserts along with a special leather/fabric seat treatment with ‘Trophy 160’ badging and an alloy/leather gear shifter.
Available is a very rare Australian delivered 2001 MG F Trophy 160 sold new through MG Rover on Crown, Surrey Hills in October of 2001 Meticulously preserved and maintained annually with the selling dealer service centre and then marque specialists this MG F has travelled just 85,219 kilometres and has had just two owners since new.
Accompanying the sale is its factory key and central locking fob, it’s original handbook, warranty cards, service logbook and a host of paperwork documenting its maintenance since new.
Arguably the best of its kind this MG is an exciting and practical modern classic British sports car which represents the logical step up from the standard MG F but uses R&D from MG’s motorsport department to develop a hard-edged driving machine.
