Built in strictly limited numbers with only 250 cars produced worldwide by the Porsche Exclusive department, the ultra-rare and bespoke 911 Sport Classic blends what many 911 aficionados believe to be Porsche’s greatest ever model, the 997 Gen 2 and its blistering performance with masterful throwback design.
The Porsche Exclusive dept has been creating seldom-seen Zuffenhausen wonders since 1983.Responsible for collectable and customised versions of Porsche cars going beyond even the highest standard of the company's regular production models, this seldom seen production house is highly coveted by purists and one of their wildest is the ballistically-hardcore 1992 964 Turbo S now worth well over $1.5 million AUD.
With all 250 cars identical in design and specification, the Sport Classic was released in Dove Grey with slightly darker GT stripes on a widebody Carrera 4S chassis featuring a newly developed double-dome roof, Sport Design front apron and spoiler, retro Duck-tail rear spoiler, one-off 19inch Fuchs alloys, a sports exhaust system with dual enlarged round tips as well as a black tint for the headlight surrounds over one of Porsche’s most masterfully detailed interiors- Espresso Nature leather with woven yarn featured inside the doorcards and seat centrepieces of a newly designed adaptive sports seat complete with Grey piping, Burber carpets, illuminated aluminium entry sills and a supreme level of handmade/handstitched finish not seen before or since in a 911.
Power comes from Porsche's 3.8-litre Direct Fuel Injection Carrera S unit, increased in this case, with a resonance intake manifold, by 23 hp to produce 408 horsepower for even more outstanding performance. The 0-100km/h flashes past in just 4.5 seconds.
Fitted exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox, PCCB Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes, PASM sports suspension lowering the entire car by 20 mm, as well as a mechanical rear axle differential this car blends retro Porsche design cues with modern driver centric engineering.
Available here is one of just three Australian delivered cars sold new through Porsche Cars Australia- one of which recently left our shores, a sign of the concentrated global demand for a RHD limited edition 911.
A miniscule number by modern production standards and with low kilometers and a complete Porsche service history this exceptionally special Sport Classic is not only an exciting return to Porsches design heritage but the ultimate 911 collectors item- a purists plaything.
Accompanying this exceptionally well-maintained car are the factory log books and manuals that show a complete Porsche Centre service history, the most recent in August of last year.
Seldom available anywhere in the world, the 911 Sport Classic was such a hit with Porsche collectors on its launch that the 250-car limited run sold out even before the company officially announced it. It’s not hard to see why with a borderline neurotic bespoke level of equipment and a run-out model for arguably Porsche’s most driver focused car ever.
More than six times rarer than the iconic 911 Carrera 2.7 RS and one of Porsche’s best ever driving cars this 911 Sport Classic is a must experience for any collector or petrolhead.
