One of the worlds fastest accelerating sportscars, the Tesla Roadster was the catalyst for the electric rEVolution and demonstrated to the world that EV’s could be sexy, quick and above all efficient.
In the 1900, electric cars accounted for about one-third of all vehicles on the road, and then almost disappeared from the landscape as petrol powered models took over. Decades later, technological advances and concerns about the environment spurred their gradual revival – which in 2019 doesn’t seem so gradual anymore.By 2040, more than half the cars world-wide will be powered only by batteries. But where did it all begin and what made the mainstream manufactures take notice of this paradigm shift? A little (not so little anymore) startup company from Silicon Valley names Tesla Motors is the who and the what was the game changing Roadster.
Launched in 2008, the Tesla Roadster brought the reality of owning an electric car to the forefront. A sexy, sleek sportscar wrapped around 6831 lithium-iron battery cells, a 215kW electric motor and single speed gearbox could deliver real world range of 400kms and propel this rocket from 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds and all without using a single drop of fuel.
Sold worldwide direct by Tesla, the exclusive Roadster production of just 2,500 were seen in the driveways of Tech Guru’s like Larry Page and Serge Brin, movie stars like George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio, and personalities like Will-I-Am and even Jay Leno.
Arriving Downunder in 2010, the Tesla Roadster 2.5 saw a handful of exclusive owners take delivery, with the most desirable being the Roadster Sport. Featuring 295hp and 400Nm of torque, the Roadsters mind-blowing performance rivaled even the performance Kings like Porsche’s 911 Turbo.
This example is one of the last Roadster 2.5 Sport editions made available for Australia. Finished in Pearl White with Black and Grey Full Leather Sport Interior, with additional equipment including: Full Carbon Fiber Interior, Infotainment System, 16 & 17” Sport Wheels, TPMS, Finished in Gloss Black, Exterior Carbon Package, Carbon Hardtop Roof finished in Pearl White, Mobile Connector and 32amp connector.
Single ownership from new and traveled just 6,300kms, this most collectible electric supercar is unlike anything you have experienced before.
