The new Range Rover is only the fifth new-generation car since 1970 and continues to carry a great legacy.
Over the past 50 years or so the Range Rover has evolved from a rather utilitarian 4x4 model to a luxury SUV that offers first-class levels of comfort and refinement. Gone are the days of washing down the interior with a hose, and instead owners are now cosseted in a sumptuous cabin that showcases Land Rover’s latest onboard technology and engineering prowess. The new range-topping Land Rover is an extensive rework of the time-tested formula. There's a new modular architecture (a derivative of the platform underpinning the 2021 SUV of the Year-winning Land Rover Defender), platform incorporates more high strength steel to create a more rigid structure.
In addition to height-adjustable air springs, there's also new adaptive dampers, a 48-volt active anti-roll system, and rear-wheel steering. And though the vast majority of Range Rovers won't ever see an unpaved road, the SUV still has off-road chops, thanks to locking centre and rear differentials, a low-range gearbox, and Land Rover's Active Terrain Response system, which uses the car's electronics to maximize available traction.
The driving position is tall and commanding, with a great view over the hood and minimal blind spots, plus nice and big door mirrors ensuring you have complete control over the roads ahead. Land Rover has made some good strides in updating its infotainment system, and the large touchscreen is responsive and easy to navigate through.
Fitted with the twin-turbocharged 4.4 litre V8 from BMW’s X7 and X5 M50i, the modestly increased power and torque significantly results in an SUV that’ll rip from a stop to highway speeds in less than five seconds.
Proudly presented is this Sydney-delivered Autobiography 7-seater long-wheelbase still in showroom condition.
