True classic cars should be defined as being stylistically/mechanically beautiful or obscure, totally unique to anything else.

Motor cars built between and including the years 1925 to 1948, distinguished for their respective fine styling, top-tier engineering standards and superior workmanship are often considered the high watermark of what it is to be a classic car.

The 1948 Rover P3 appeared as a 4 cylinder '60' with an optional uprated 6 cylinder '75' engine that boasted a light alloy construction with inlet valves in the head, and the exhaust valves located at the side, revolutionary for the time.

Autocar Magazine remarked that this engine was excellently quiet and more fuel efficient than its predecessors – sticking to Rovers core values of solidity and quality.

Rover also implemented an all new steel frame over the outgoing ash frame, independent front suspension with anti-roll stabilisers and an extensive use of rubber bushes as well as an inbuilt controlled “free wheel” which permits noiseless and easy gear changes without touching the clutch pedal, merely by releasing the throttle and moving the gear lever- very clever, very Rover.

Other new features included an electronic fuel pump, synchromesh on 3rd and top gears, heating/demisting, hydro-mechanical brakes, and importantly production lasted less than 18 months for the P3 meaning today it’s incredibly rare.

The beautifully restored car offered is a 1949 Rover P3 optioned with the more powerful and harder to find ‘75’ 6 cylinder power unit in excellent condition.

Finished in Black with a small Burgundy pin stripe running along the shoulder of the car over light Grey leather trim with masterfully finished timber accents along the dash, doors and window frames this sympathetically restored Rover P3 ‘75’ would suit the most discerning collector.

Inside, the original His Master’s Voice stereo is still fitted, the leather door card trim, carpets and seat trims all fit with meticulous precision, touch points like the chrome manual window winders, door handles, switch gear, steering wheel and gear shift knob are all in period pristine condition. Rover build quality has to be experienced to be believed.

The bodywork follows the same fashion, gun barrel straight and the doors have the characteristic Rover “zero push to close” feel. The paintwork has the consistency of glass, the brightwork from the well integrated grille, to the bumpers and tail light bezels is near perfect. All tell-tale signs of a masterfully restored and well cared for car.

Accompanying the car is an original owner’s manual, the original tool kit so often lost and the original jack.

With antique styling, seriously respectable performance and an old-world level of comfort and solid build-quality this rare Rover P3 ‘75’ is perfectly prepped for winding weekend roads or even grand tours through the country with plenty of luggage space.

A level of finish even CTS seldom see’s, this Rover is something tantalizingly special. A viewing is a must.
