The 280 SL began production, in December 1967 and continued through to March 1971 with little change. Known as the ‘Pagoda Roof” the roaster coupe is as popular toady as when it was first produced.
The unmistakable shape of the Pagoda is easily recognizable and is still one of the best looking Mercedes Benz’s around. 48,912 Units where produced in Stuttgart from 63-71. Popular in both Europe and the United States the SL models are becoming very collectable, so much so that some European models have been imported by collectors in the States as gray-market imports. The car we have on offer was delivered new in Wollongong in NSW in December of 1968. A genuine Australian delivered car in original colour combination this car is accompanied by a large history. The books are documented from first delivery with every service stamp showing mileage at and date of service. The car has had a full engine rebuild in 2004 which is also noted in the handbooks.
Having the correct provenance on hand for such a collectable car makes it easy to see the car was maintained correctly and fastidiously.
With a new soft top this car is ready for its new home. With soft and hard tops the Pagoda is an all year round classic that is as at home in city traffic as it is on the open road.
Fitted with all the correct chromes and original hubcaps this car shows a wonderful yet slight patina inside which adds great character to the car and shows great preservation. The oversized steering wheel finished in white matching the almost ivory interior with the dash panel fined in the deep red of the exterior lets us see the unique, yet classic styling of Mercedes-Benz.
A fantastic asset to any collection.
