It’s the evolutionary peak of the original Mini formula and it was even designed by the same person, Alec Issigonis. The British Motor Company’s sporty brand, MG wanted to badge up their own front-wheel drive sporting sedan, so they did - it was called the MG 1100 and it’s possibly one of the most entertaining cars we’ve ever driven.
So, what did you get?The difference being the MG was built up as a full family car, so you were given a bigger body than the Mini, a bigger engine, front disc brakes, quality trim and the best bit… fantastic ultra-advanced Hydrolastic suspension.
However today, one of the biggest things to bear in mind, is that the little MG is an absolute crowd pleaser, not only putting a ear-to-ear grin on the drivers face but the rest of the world watching it go by, lots of smiles and waves get exchanged as the little British classic bumbles down the road.
To drive, the 1100cc isn’t the fastest on the road but the engine produces plenty of low-down torque to push the small motorcar through the gears with ease, the steering is light to turn, the interior is surprisingly spacious and the Hydrolastic suspension provides an enormous amount of comfort and road-hold.
Here at CTS we are excited to bring to market this 1965 MG 1100 Sports Sedan ordered in British Racing Green over Grey Vinyl delivered new by Newbury Motors Ltd, Worcestershire in July 1965.
Upon arriving on Australian shores in 1967 the little MG was under the same ownership for nearly 50 years and is still presented in exceptionally original condition.
Completely unrestored this MG has just been the subject of a major mechanical service which includes an all new clutch, tires, carburettor kit, fuel Pump, thermostat/gasket housing, spark plugs, front screen rubber, starter motor solenoid and more.
Accompanied with its original BMC passport to service, driver’s handbook, MG sales brochure and newspaper advertisement. This 1100 carries plenty of provenance for the avid enthusiast or collector to make it an excellent addition to the garage or a great beginning to classic car ownership.
