“Its true genius is more evident now than when this hero rolled out in 1999” – Wheels Magazine December, 2019
The 911 Type 996 GT3 Mk1 was launched at the 1999 Geneva Motorshow in a temporary window for Porsche where an old-school approach to driver assistance met a legendary engine and tyre combination. In three words- Porsche’s competition pedigree, is what makes the GT3 Mk1 the driver’s choice today.
More specifically the iconic racing M96/72 Mezger engine tucked into this cars rear end delivering limitless torque that represented a high bar for naturally aspirated engines at the turn of the century and made the first GT3, Porsche’s fastest ever road car.
The car offered here is an exceptionally rare Australian delivered 911 Type 996 GT3 Clubsport Mk1.
One of just 42 cars to reach our shores with few surviving today and presented in its original Black over Black Clubsport bucket seats and matching roll cage this GT3 has travelled just 52,690 kilometres.
An original car this exceptionally well maintained GT3 still features its original Type 996 GT3 18-inch alloy wheels, Porsche CDR220 stereo, air conditioning, aluminium finish shifter and handbrake lever, colour crested bucket seats in fire-retardant trim and Porsche car mats plus smaller details like the original MOBIL oils decal inside the engine bay. All in superb condition and all tell-tale signs of a well-cared for car.
The drive is also sensational. Totally unmodified, at the turn of the key you can feel the potential of this racing package, as Porsche intended. On the road, the combination of engine, chassis and zero electronic devices to restrain the power means this GT3 is in a word, fun.
Accompanied by it’s complete book pack showing a methodical Porsche and specialist service history and both original keys this rare find really is something special.
Porsche proved the GT3’s prowess at the “Ring” with Walter Röhrl setting a time of 7min 56sec becoming the first to lap a standard production car there in less than eight minutes.
With a reputation that precedes it and perhaps the best, most engaging representation of old and new skool coming together in one package this Black on Black 996 GT3 Mk1 Clubsport isn’t just one to walk past at coffee and cars, this extraordinary car is a must own and experience.
