The TF was the last of the traditional MGs and the 1500 was the final version, made for just a year. Only 3400 TF 1500s were made.

A restyled body with a more idealised shape, increased power output, and detail modifications to improve comfort and accessibility are among the many outstanding features of the Nuffield Organisation newly built M.G. TF of the time.

The records of this car show that it arrived and was first registered in 1956. With production of the T-type series finishing in 1955, this would make the car one of the last TFs registered for the road anywhere.

The present owner bought the car just over a year ago from the previous owner who’d had the car for over forty years. He was a partner in several BMC/Leyland dealerships and always had an affinity for M. When the opportunity to buy a very good TF 1500 arose, he bought this car, having known the previous owner for many years.

In 1986 the last owner commissioned professional restorer extraordinaire John Hunting, to undertake a comprehensive restoration taking two years to complete. The car was completely stripped down, to the chassis. Bodywork and paint, all mechanical components, interior trim, electricals, chrome work – every aspect of the car was rebuilt to exacting standards. The high quality of the work is very evident today as the car still presents beautifully. One reason is that the car has seen limited use since completion of the work, having covered just around 2700 miles in that time.

Correct hood cloth was imported from England and Crawfords, renowned East Perth upholsterers made a new soft top, tonneau and side curtains. The new roof has only been used twice, in recent months. The seat upholstery is leather. The car has always been kept covered and garaged.

This TF is a ‘matching numbers car’, with the only change from original being the colour. It was black when new.

Two years ago the car was invited to be exhibited at the Motor Museum of WA for 3 months, being a pristine example of the model, well worthy of display.

The large file of documentation with the car covers the restoration, though to original documentation from the 1950s which has survived with the car.

This is a matching numbers car with excellent pedigree and the subject of a high quality restoration, remaining in outstanding condition throughout. It stands out as a prime example of the model and a very worthy addition for any collector.
