For Porsche, The RS (‘RennSport’, or ‘racing sport’ in English) lineage began with the Carrera RS 2.7 of 1973, its lightweight build and race-bred engine pointing the way for future models carrying the badge. Performance, for its day, was staggering: 0-100km/h in 5.6 sec, 100mph in 12.8sec and 150mph at the top end. RS models were visually apparent by a small ducktail spoiler on the rear deck and a lower, deeper front splitter.

Around 17 years ago, Porsche stuck an ‘RS’ badge onto a 911 GT3. It was, visually at the very least, inspired by the Carrera 2.7 RS of decades prior, and as such it wore a decal down the side that made the link clear. Today, the GT3 RS wears the same decal, though it has come a long way in other aspects.

Several models have since carried the RS moniker, but in the modern era it was the 996 GT3 RS of 2003 that revived the name. Based on the 996 GT3, the RS featured an upgraded 381bhp version of the ‘Mezger’ racing engine. In its basic form, the water-cooled flat-six was developed for Porsche’s 1996 GT1 racing models, and has since become legendary in Porsche circles through its installation in GT3 models.

Since then, no less than 6 iterations of RS models have inspired, delighted, terrified and provided top step podium finishes in nearly every conceivable level of motorsport both on the road and on the track:

The 996, 997 first and second generations as well the hallowed 4.0 lt, 991 and now the “so-close-to-series-racing-you-would-not-believe” 991.2. Which leads us this stunning 911 GT3 RS with Weissach Package… Cue the music:

Delivered new in Sydney through Porsche Centre Parramatta Finished in traditional White with Black Clubsport Interior, it has travelled just 2,148 kms and fitted with the following equipment:

• Weissach Package

• PDK Transmission

• Sport Chrono Package

• PCCB

• Wheels Painted in Satin Black

• Six-Point Safety Harness

• Instrument Dials in White

• LED Headlights in Black

• Reversing Camera

• Sun Visors in Alcantara

• Storage Compartment in Alcantara

The same 4.0 litre from its GT3 stablemate is tuned up to 514 horsepower and PDK is the only choice here, as track rats presumably favor fast lap times over the tactility of the manual. The RS It's lighter, faster, more powerful and performance clocks in at 3.0 seconds for the zero-to-100km/h and a top speed of 312km/h.

For extra lightness, the front hood and fenders are carbon fiber, and the roof is magnesium. A good portion of the aero kit is pulled from the badder 991.2 GT2 RS, particularly the hood's NACA ducts and the large front splitter. Aside from the usual RS-specific suspension modifications, there are new helper springs front and rear, working with upgraded ball joints.

The hardest of the hard-core spring for the Weissach package that adds carbon-fiber front and rear antiroll bars, a carbon-fiber roof, and carbon trim for the steering wheel and shift paddles, for added weight reduction, all of which resulting in a lap time of 6:56.4 around the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife race track. Porsche predicted a 10-15 second lap improvement over the 991.1 RS, they did not at all expect the car to lap the ‘Ring that quickly. It is the third Porsche production car to break the 7-minute barrier around the track, the first being the 918 Spyder.

Porsche has this amazing ability to continue to build out-and-out sports cars that are both usable and collectable straight out of the pitlane. And with the world’s greatest engine, ridiculously fast and capable with looks to match, the 991.2 911 GT3 RS Weissach is simply driving nirvana….if your hard enough.
