Opalescent Sand | Fixed Head Coupé | 4 Speed Manual | 4.2 litre | 71,990 miles | SOLD

WPCS 2.1.0

Launched in 1961 for the Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E Type revolutionised the sports car market.

Offering leading edge four-wheel independent suspension that was so well conceived it would be used by Jaguar for the next 30 years and a timeless design declared the “most beautiful ever made” by Enzo Ferrari, the E Type delivered one of those rare instances where an end product actually out-gunned marketing hype.

Something extraordinarily special and offered for sale on only fantastically rare occasions, the car offered here is an original and Australian delivered Series 1 4.2 litre Jaguar E Type manual Coupé.

Delivered new by Bob Jane Jaguar, Victoria in November of 1965 this car is an out-and-out survivor travelling just 72,000 miles from new.

Recently released from long-term, single ownership this car presents in Opalescent Sand over Fawn trim with its original registration plates and carries an authentic patina that we’ve purposefully left intact.

It’s so refreshing to see such an original and unrestored E Type in remarkably straight, dry and authentic condition. Importantly, this cars exterior still features its original chrome bumpers with correct and straight nudge bars, fitted only to Australian delivered cars. The factory TripleX glass is still fitted to each window including the windscreen, the Olympic O.T. Radial tyres have been on the original wire wheels since the early 1970’s and small details like all of the original build tags are still present including the Green and Silver Bryson’s Jaguar delivery plate so often lost through the ravages of time and restoration.

Under the bonnet, the condition can only be described as untouched.

The original plastic wiring clips are still intact, each and every spot weld marking is still visible, the often corroded battery box is perfectly dry and even the small leather strap with its neat brass buckle securing the washer fluid bottle is still accounted for. All fine details that underscore just how well this car has been preserved for the last 52 years and details we rarely see.

Inside, the original biscuit carpets, leather seat trim, Smiths instrumentation, dealer fitted HMV stereo, even the Bakelite rear vision mirror with functioning dimming lever and dealer fitted Britax seat-belts are all still present and accounted for and in great condition.

This time capsule classic is also accompanied by its original Periodic Maintenance Booklet with delivery information penned inside, Operating, maintenance and service handbook so often lost as well as the original jack, tool-kit and copper/hyde hammer wrapped in their separate vinyl holdalls.

An absolute credit to its last custodian and an undeniable asset to the next this incredibly collectable E Type has to be one of the most original classics we’ve ever seen, even on a global scale. Who needs a time machine?

Presented in a stunning colour combination and in solid running and driving condition, with E Type demand and values on the up and up around the world this rare and exceedingly original find would make a welcomed addition to any collection or garage to either be brought back to its former sporting glory or left in its unique, time-machine state.
