1957 MG A 1500

THE quintessential sports classic that manages to distil all the facets of the automobile down to the most primal and visceral basics, the Type A was a pioneer for a new breed of MG sports car, thrusting the Abingdon Company into a progressive era of automotive design.

Gone was the old hat and upright styling of the previous T-series cars, replaced with sleekly streamlined bodywork evolved from a series of racing prototypes intended for Le Mans.

Featuring everything needed for the ultimate drive: a rev-happy engine, 4 speed manual transmission, knock-off wire wheels, rack and pinion steering, dual carburettors, a sporty exhaust bark, tachometer, folding convertible top and just two bucket seats, the MG A was engineered purely for motoring entertainment.

Limited in production and with few surviving today, these desirable models were shipped to the land down under from BMC in the UK in crates like flat-pack furniture to be assembled at the BMC factory in Zetland, Sydney.
