What would turn out to be the final and finest incarnation of Jaguar's revered XK series of sports cars arrived in 1957, identified by its new curved windshield and raised shoulder profile.
An evolution of the race bred XK120 and XK140, the XK150 retains the same chassis and four-speed Moss transmission of its predecessors while boasting new, wider and more assertive body work with increased interior space and much more stable handling dynamics. The most notable development of the XK150 was its adoption of Dunlop disc brakes- the same tried and tested on the Le Mans-winning C-Type of 1953.
Manufactured in October of 1957, and sold new to the UK this stunning original right hand drive Jaguar XK150 was optioned with the SE ‘Special Equipment’ pack that included over-drive and the higher 210bhp straight six power unit.
Subject to a detailed refurbishment between 2012-2017 the body, engine, transmission, brakes and running gear were all rebuilt from the ground up with some minor modifications made to extract the most out of what the XK150 has to offer.
Today the car presents in excellent turn-key condition, ripe for the driver and finished in period correct Regency Red over Tan trim.
During the no expense spared refurbishment any handle, seal, bezel and dial was expertly refinished and many small factory parts still feature like the “Made In England” stamp, Triple X glass and even the “Le Mans Winner” deck-lid badge.
One of the highest quality interior finishes we’ve seen, the hand stitched leather dash is filled with the correct mohair, the double stitched leather bucket seats adapted from an XJS hug the driver perfectly, the crystal clear and correct Smiths instrumentation is still present, the perfectly form-fitted carpets present with zero wear and there is a modern radio neatly hidden within the dash. The overall look and feel inside the cockpit is solid, strictly business and sporty.
The mechanical overhaul was carried out by Graeme Lord Automotive, a well-known and respected classic Jaguar specialist. A later 3.8 litre engine was sourced and received new valves, guides, springs, camshaft and a complete head service before being fitted.
Simultaneously a new/old stock stainless steel exhaust was fitted, the original Moss box was fitted with a new clutch pack, the tail-shaft overhauled and re-balanced and a reconditioned higher ratio differential and LSD were fitted.
For reliability, an entirely new wiring loom was sourced and fitted, electronic ignition added and the generator was replaced with a more modern alternator.
The end result has produced one of the most engaging, dependable and beautifully presented XK150’s we’ve seen. A brilliant mix of modern reliability with the character of the original car still retained.
Accompanying this XK150 is a swathe of invoicing detailing all works completed across the last 5 years, from the interior trimming to the suspension set-up as well as an owner’s manual.
Hard to find in such masterfully crafted and restored condition this original right hand drive and excellently well prepared Jaguar XK150 coupe is something quite special.
Offering not just an exciting opportunity to own and drive the pinnacle of Jaguars early XK series with race-bred technology used in the Le Mans winning racing machines, this turn-key car also offers great investment potential as demand and prices continue to climb around the world for the best examples.
