Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961 Jaguar’s E-Type will endure as the most iconic British sports car of all time. People were writing cheques on the spot and handing them to anyone with a leaping cat embossed on their shirt. It was/is the ultimate automotive expression of the Swinging Sixties.
The reason the E-Type was so good - it was a road going Spitfire penned by an infatuated engineer with the gift of thinking instinctively and mathematically in three dimensions.
Malcolm Sayer was an expert at improving the aerodynamic efficiencies of WWII fighter planes. He was a key player to the Le Mans dominating successes of the preceding C and D-Types and his legacy, the E-Type is now a hero of automotive history.
As described on the supplied Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate this car was delivered to its first keeper in September 1963 at Brysons Australia.
Fast forward 54 years and this stunningly presented example still retains its highly sort after colour combination of Opalescent Gunmetal over a sumptuous Red interior.
Beautifully restored with many original features including its original radio this car has also been upgraded in the right departments. This includes the installation of the far superior and manageable 4.2 synchromesh gearbox as well as uprated brakes. Cared for and loved by its most recent owner as testified by the file of receipts of service, framed restoration picture montage and service manuals this beauty is now ready for its new owner to admire and enjoy with the reassurance that all the original parts come with the car.
If you’re after an example of an all-time classic that ticks all the right boxes then this is the car for you. Original specified and sought after colour combination, tick.
