The Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint is one of those rare machines that captures the essence of Italian grand touring at its most elegant.

Penned by a young Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone, the Sprint’s lines are refined, perfectly proportioned, and unmistakably Milanese. Under the bonnet lies Alfa Romeo’s last great straight-six, a 2.6-litre twin-cam masterpiece, delivering effortless pace and a sonorous soundtrack that defined the dolce vita era of the 1960s.

This particular car, delivered new to Brisbane in 1965, is one of only 596 right-hand-drive Sprints ever built. It has had just two custodians in its 60-year life. The first owner covered an impressive 79,000kms during his long stewardship, while the second owner has added only a little over 1,000kms since acquiring it, preserving both the originality and integrity of this rare Alfa.

Still wearing its factory Bianco Antico paint over a Tobacco leather interior, the car radiates authenticity and timeless charm. It sits on period-correct Michelin tyres with refurbished wheels, and its mechanicals have been carefully renewed for reliable use: rebuilt brakes and booster, new Marmitte exhaust, rebuilt steering box, a reconditioned head with hardened valve seats to suit modern fuels, an upgraded 123 electronic ignition system, and a new clutch. Every component has been sourced through Classic Alfa or OKP to maintain accuracy and period correctness.

Adding to its significance is an extraordinary collection of original factory literature and documentation: two Catalogo Parti di Ricambio volumes (mechanical/electrical and bodywork), a Bertone dealer fact sheet, the original brochure, OEM service coupon book, dashboard instructions, owner’s manual, warranty and policy record, and more. For a collector, this archive is every bit as valuable as the car itself.

The 2600 Sprint was Alfa’s flagship of the 1960s, a car for those who wanted the grace of a Maserati or Aston Martin with the unique character of Italian engineering and design. Today, with its rarity, originality, rich provenance, and remarkable supporting documents, this Alfa Romeo 2600 Sprint stands as a truly special survivor. It is at once a car to be driven and enjoyed on open roads, and a piece of Alfa Romeo history worthy of any serious collection.
