THE gentleman’s sports coupe, conceived during the swingin’ 60s and the most recognizable design in the world, the Aston Martin DB6 was launched at the London Motor Show in October of 1965 and marked a special occasion, the end of the original DB-line.
The all new design featured a functional Kamm tail improving high speed stability, split front and rear bumpers, redesigned oil cooler aperture for the front valance, ZF 5 speed manual transmission, a taller roof line and longer wheelbase making the DB6 a faster, more dynamic gentleman’s sports car undercover as a more practical proposition. The Aston Martin offered is an original right-hand drive 1966 DB6 MK1 Vantage presented in Red over Terra Cotta Connolly leather trim with matching chassis and engine numbers.
Options included; Vantage motor, heated rear windows, chrome wheels, three ear hubcaps, Motorola Radio, powered aerial, extra ½ gallon Platinum paint and a 3.73:1 limit slip differential.
Manufactured on the 20th of May 1966, originally Platinum (Ivory White), it is noted in a letter dated June 1977 from Aston Martin Lagonda LTD that a London based firm, Messrs Tozer Kemsley and Moser with “far eastern connections” had exported the car where we believe it was destined for Australia.
In September 1976 it was found in an unassembled state accompanied with boxes of parts, the new owner at the time had subjected the Aston to a ground up restoration over the next coming years and completed the project in 1987.
After 36 years of fastidious ownership and many AMOC 1st place concours awards, the DB6 Vantage was sold to its current owner whom has tastefully retro fitted an electric air-conditioning unit, aftermarket stereo system and has been regularly maintaining the DB6 with a local Sydney specialist ever since.
A very rare find, being one of only 268 MK1’s ever produced in right-hand drive with the desirable Vantage specification. This specification uses a 4.0 Litre Inline six-cylinder motor that bumps the DB6’s performance from 287 to 325 horsepower by using twin choke Weber carburettors and flow-tuned manifolds to achieve the 0 – 100km/h sprint in just 6.1 seconds.
Whether it be an addition to a collection or a dream garage purchase, this numbers matching Aston Martin DB6 Vantage lends a unique opportunity to own, drive and invest in one of the greatest Grand Touring sports cars ever made.
