If ever a classic sports car took Britain’s passion for motorsport and planted it into the timber steering-wheel wielding, goggle and leather glove clad weekend driver, it was the Austin Healey 3000. .

Launched in 1959, the Austin Healey is a low slung, stylish brute of a sportscar with a raw style of power delivery that’s helped it to amass a global cult following and fill scores trophy of cabinets in the process.

Equipped with roll-up side windows, chrome wire wheels and an easily operable soft top the Austin Healey to own, drive and collect is the Mk III Phase II. This was the very last model to leave the production line before the company closed its doors in 1968.

Fitted with a potent 2.9 litre 150 hp 6-cylinder engine and 4 speed manual overdrive transmission, as well as disc brakes this “last of/best of” edition also featured chassis and handling upgrades increasing top speed to 121mph and lowering the 0-60mph time below 10 seconds.

The 3000 Mk III BJ8 offered here represents the last, and what many believe to be the 3000’s finest, model year.

Originally sold new to Philadelphia, USA in July of 1967 optioned with wire wheels, heater, adjustable steering-column, whitewall tyres, octagonal centre-lock wheel nuts, laminated windscreen and overdrive this collectible classic has been extensively restored and the result has produced arguably the finest of its kind in the country.

Finished in Ivory White over Red Ambla leatherette, Red carpeting and stunning walnut trim, from the bare metal bodywork and brilliant paintwork to the detailed rebuild of the engine, mechanicals, brakes, interior trim, switchgear and original instrumentation and finally the hard-top the top tier standard of finish this car presents with is totally unrivalled.

Meticulously maintained post restoration as well, today this car still presents in outstanding condition. All of the finer details are correct, the firm bucket seats glue the driver to the floor of the car, the interior has been artfully trimmed and shows zero signs of age, the timber steering wheel is lacquered beautifully and the feel inside the cockpit is fresh and sporty.

Accompanied by is factory Heritage Certificate and owner’s handbook, this last of the Big Healey’s is perfect for weekend escapes.

The drive is surprisingly punchy, a mix of real, usable torque and low slung comfort ideal for point and shoot driving within the city with enough grace and pace for winding weekend roads.

An unrivalled sports classic equally as capable at wetting appetites on the concours lawn as it is on the road this “last of” Austin Healey 3000 Mk III will not last long.
