The handsomely styled Mercedes-Benz W113 Pagoda SL is one of the most collectable, eminently usable and universally loved classics ever to grace the road.

Offering the perfect combination of Benz race-bred pedigree and timeless architecture the 230, 250 and 280 SL’s are a testament to brilliant design and are destined to remain a popular and coveted car for generations to come.

In 1966, the 250 SL was announced as the replacement for the 230 SL with a larger 2.5 litre motor lifted from the contemporary S-Class sedan featuring a seven main bearing crankshaft (instead of four) for smoother running, a longer stroke to improve torque, new rubber-bushed suspension eliminating the need for greasing during servicing, ATE disc brakes at the rear, a larger fuel tank along with slightly wider wheels and a limited-slip differential.

With effortless pace and an awe-inspiring soundtrack, the 250 SL is the most exclusive and arguably the most sought after of the W113 series as it ranks amongst the shortest lived of any Mercedes-Benz model with production lasting less than 12 months and offers a lighter, more sporting drive in comparison to its successor.

The car offered is an incredibly rare, Australian delivered and numbers matching Mercedes-Benz 250 SL sold new in 1967 and ordered in White over Cognac MB Tex trim optioned with the more tractable 3 speed automatic transmission, power steering, colour coded hard-top, White hub-caps and tinted windows- as it presents today.

The subject of a light restoration to original specifications in the late 1990’s, this collectable car has withstood the test of time well and just last year received a total reconditioning of the engines top-end with classic Mercedes specialists based in Melbourne.

A true driver’s car to be driven and not hidden, both the exterior and interior present with an authentic patina consistent with the age of the restoration and both still feature correct original parts from the Bosch head lamps, right down to the fuel filler cap, the original hard-top with Bamboo coloured headliner, correct coco mat carpets, the original Bakelite steering wheel and the perfectly 1960’s VDO instrumentation that never loses its eccentricity.

In accompaniment is an original Owner’s Manual, receipts dating to the 1980’s, records of the mechanical restoration works, recent servicing invoices as well as the hard-top and chocolate soft-top.

A classic that lets you have your cake and eat it too with a seriously usable drive, timeless design with great provenance and collectability this Australian delivered 250SL is one for the savvy classic driver.

So rarely available to own and drive, this 250 SL won’t last long.
