The W113 SL was built to exceptional standards, from cast-aluminium door shells to individually numbered alloy bonnet, boot lid, hood cover and door skins.
Way ahead of its time in the combination of sporting performance and touring comfort that it offers, it seems delicate but is a masterful endurance rally car – as proven by winning the gruelling 1964 Spa-Sofia-Liège.
The W113 was always glamorous and expensive (twice as much as a 4.2 E-Type), with Charlton Heston and John Lennon among star owners in period. John Travolta, David Coulthard, Jason Orange and Kate Moss have added more recent flair to the model.
Such is the truly excellent build quality of the SL's, and indeed all Mercedes-Benz products from the 1960s.
With the replacement 280 SL arriving just eleven months after the first 250 left the Stuttgart production line, it was always going to be the rarest of the ‘pagoda’ family.
Presented here is a wonderful opportunity to own a lovely Pagoda.
Delivered new into the United Kingdom, this golden treasure was enjoyed for just over a decade until a New Yorker purchased and imported the car to his homeland. After enjoying a short lived time in the big apple, the car was imported into Australia in 1985.
The car has enjoyed ownership by only passionate Mercedes collectors. Our 250 SL has had main areas restored at different times. The interior scheme is very cool with its mix of dark tan leather, Black ivory trim and wood. The mechanics of the car are in excellent working order making the driving experience really enjoyable.
The exterior Tunis Beige Metallic paint is what completes and sets this classic off. Having recently been freshened up at our expense, this 250 SL is an absolute showstopper and one that Frank Sinatra would proudly accept into his garage.
