It was after the success Ford had with their GT40’s at Le Mans using Shelby’s engines the company remained influential with Ford manufactured cars and in 1967 the notorious GT500 was added to the line-up of Shelby Super Ford’s.“Seven liters! Four hundred and twenty-eight cubic inches in a Mustang!” - Car and Driver February, 1967 Yes, the GT500 was fitted with a ‘Cobra Le Mans’ 7.0 litre Police Interceptor V8 that gulps fuel through two 600 CFM Holley four-barrel carburettors to produce 355 HP and a cataclysmic 570Nm of torque to its rear wheels.
