A purpose-built and grin inducing front engined, rear drive sports car, the MG B is classic British style and feel in three dimensions and after its 1962 London Motorshow launch, a golden period of automotive design, went on to become the best-selling sports car, ever.
The MG, which stands for Morris Garages, offered here is an Australian delivered 1968 B Mk1 in Carnation Red over Black leather upholstery and was sold new by Stewarts Motor Services, Sydney in September of 1967.One of the finest in the country and the subject of a zero expense spared ground up restoration this stunning car has been artfully finished and meticulously maintained.
Benefitting from specialist works using genuine parts including a rebuild of the engine and transmission, the entire cooling matrix from the radiator to the oil cooler was refurbished, new suspension componentry was fitted both front and rear, the brakes were rebuilt, so to was the differential, the restoration went so far as to finish the clutch slave cylinder in stainless steel and zinc coat any exposed nut and bolt, new electronically matched to factory specification paintwork was applied, then a professionally re-trimmed interior with new carpets, seat coverings and switch gear along with all the correct decals like the “Coopers Made In England” air-intake branding were sourced and lastly a new set of chrome wire wheels were supplied from the UK and fitted.
Maintained with meticulous detail post restoration as well and featured within the 2017 MG Car Club Concours, today the car presents in as close to showroom condition as you’ll find.
Accompanied by a generous history file with receipts for all modern works including the most recent service in August of this year as well as the rarely seen and original service manual with delivery information, original handbook and workshop manual this MG B is something extra special.
A short drive shows exactly why the MG B has always had and continues to build an enormous cult following around the world. With point and shoot driving dynamics, flashes of chrome and a crackle finish dash and the smell and sound of 1960’s motoring freedom there’s nothing else quite like the MG B.
An unsurpassable first foray into classic car ownership and/or an addition to an established collection, this MG B is perfectly prepped for its next custodian and one of the finest we’ve ever seen.
