Launched at the 1962 London Motor Show, the MG B features a dependable 1.8-litre B-series engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox that loves to blast through the city or winding weekend roads with comforts like wind-up windows, cushioned bucket-seats and a neat folding convertible top.
We are excited to bring to market this absolute one-off opportunity to own a completely original Australian built 1970 MG B Roadster Mk2 ordered in Jet Red over Black upholstery, sold new by Peter Manton Motors Pty Ltd, Melbourne on the 24th of April 1970.This two-owner, unrestored example has travelled a genuine 11,133 miles from new and the last owner kept the vehicle in a de-humidified garage for the past 11 years covering just over 1,000 miles during that time.
Still with its original acrylic paint this MG presents beautifully, showing no signs of bumps or bruises as all the original steel press marks remain, the shut lines are factory straight, all standard factory Lucas headlights and taillights are present and even the original “Jet Red” paint sticker sits in the engine bay which presents as new.
Upon lifting the rear parcel shelf interior carpet you can identify that the carpet is totally original as the factory parts numbers are written on the underside material and what’s even more exciting is you can view the original plaque from the body press company “Pressed Steel Fisher Ltd” which is attached and painted in the rear shelf, a small detail never found on a restored vehicle.
The interior features a period correct Blaupunkt Auto Radio, its original vinyl seats, its factory soft-top in as new condition, all original instrument gauges and a period correct Monza Steering wheel.
The drive is sensational, let us emphasize…. This is not a barn find, this MG B runs and drives without a hitch. Incredibly well maintained, the engine starts without hesitation, the gearbox is smooth as you move through the gears, the throttle response is immediate and the steering is direct and sporty as you’d expect from a B. Accompanying the vehicle:
• Original Dealer Bill of Sale
• Original MG Handbooks
• Original Passport to Service Booklet
• Original Delivery Service Receipt
• Annual Concours Award Certificates from 1971 - 1974 from the MG Car Club Melbourne
A great first glimpse into classic car ownership and/or an addition to an established collection, this MG B is at home beside your daily drive and a standout at the MG clubs national concours events.
It is not everyday we come across such a cherished vehicle to this standard having survived the tests of time for nearly 40 years. This is an exciting opportunity to own possibly the best example in the country so don’t miss out – Afterall, a car is only ever original once.
