Dubbed the World-Spec-Aston and the Newport-Pagnell based manufacturer’s first new car in 20 years, the most aristocratic of convertibles from a time when things were more double-breasted, the Aston Martin Virage Volante debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 1991.

To be remembered as Aston’s first big leap towards lightweight construction, forward thinking technology, and modernity the Virage Volante features an all-aluminium body, a revised 5.3 litre V8 engine with all new 32-valve heads designed and tuned to a whopping 330hp by Callaway, the British based performance company that built turbocharged 5.7-litre V8 Corvettes in 1986 that put out a staggering 382hp.

It’s also fitted with a masterfully crafted electronically-operated convertible hood with alcantara lining and glass rear window, complete with heated de-misting elements, there’s also climate control, electronically adjustable and heated seating, a fully integrated smart alarm system and multi-functional steering wheel.

Then, there is the design. What will go down as one of the most striking and evocative automotive designs ever penned, the Virage Volante represents Aston in three dimensions.

From the classically hand formed rear kick-tail to the sporting slim tinted rear lenses and throwback finned front fenders this car is something special. Finished in Aston Racing Green over Magnolia Connelly leather with Dark Green Piping and walnut trim, one of just 233 cars ever built this Aston Martin Virage Volante was sold new to the UK on the 20th of May, 1993.

Exceptionally well maintained, this rare car arrived in Australia in 2016. With all of its subtle nuances in excellent condition, outside the paintwork still carries a mirror finish, the panel fit is skin tight and the overall road presence is factory fresh.

Inside, the opulent fit and finish must have seemed out of this world in 1993 from the crystal clear gauges spread across the leather dash, flashes of the winged Aston badge fitted to the well weighted gear lever and analogue clock to the seemingly untouched switchgear with “Sport” button fitted for good measure, smooth multi-function steering wheel and sporty alcantara lined soft-top, a short stint behind the wheel engages all the senses.

Extensively documented, accompanying the car is a detailed history file with its original leather bound log books showing a complete service history, a large folder of parts and service receipts as well as English MOT’s and the original keys.

Last of the truly hand formed Aston Martins in stunning condition and with exceptionally low production numbers this Virage Volante offers the ideal acquisition for the most particular AM enthusiast and/or a welcomed addition to any collection.

An exhilarating drive coupled with a totally unique design that constantly draws the eye for a double take make this rare sports classic something very special.
