Continental R Green | Coupé | 4 Speed Automatic | 6.75 litre V8 | 63,145 miles | AU$134,995

WPCS 2.1.0

Opulent power and elegance with a 6.75-liter V8 engine producing 239 kW, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, all embodied in the 1993 Bentley Continental R.

A sublime GT with a stonking, turbocharged 6.75-litre V8, the 1990s Continental R was a landmark car for Bentley Such a compelling combination of old-world Bentley charm, handsome, square-jawed lines and thunderous performance is more than enough to qualify the Continental for icon status.

But there’s more, because the Continental was actually a rather significant car, a true landmark in the Bentley story. When it was launched in 1991 it was the first Bentley with an entirely bespoke body since the mid 1960s. It was born at a time when Bentleys were usually little more than rebadged Rolls-Royces, although the Turbo R saloon had shown there was an appetite for something a little sportier.

The Continental R, designed by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley, took the Turbo R underpinnings as a starting point but clothed them in a two-door coupe body that had no Rolls-Royce equivalent. Here was a marque in the process of re-forging its own identity.

The result was the fastest, most powerful Bentley Automobile of its day, and the most expensive production car in the world at its introduction. In the words of the Bentley boffins, “it was more than simply sufficient…”

We are pleased to offer this stunning Bentley Continental R at the Classic Throttle Shop. Built in the second quarter of 1993 and dispatched to its first owner, Colonel Fred Bell on 1st June by Jack Barclay Bentley, London, this Mulliner built saloon is nothing short of spectacular.

Finished in Racing Green over Magnolia and Piped Spruce Hide, it features 17” Bentley styled alloy wheels, Limited Slip Differential and a Final Drive Ratio of 2.69:1.

Despite its size, it remains perfectly graceful thanks to the Bentley powered 6.75 litre turbo-charged V8 and sophisticated 4-speed transmission – the perfect Grand Tourer. Inside the cabin is a very comfortable place to spend time, providing more than ample space in front and treating rear seat occupants to a luxurious journey like no other.

Out on the road, the stately English GT performs effortlessly. A slight lean on the accelerator quickly moves the needle to highway speeds whilst a full throttle downshift will hoist the nose dramatically as to provide the driver with a firm spread of Connolly hide in the backbone. And whilst the Continental’s natural environment may be a European cross-country dash, it settles down to everyday speeds contently and with little noise, demonstrating its fine, mannered grace.

As a rare 1993 model, This example sports the Bentley “Green Badge” to commemorate Bentley’s Diamond Jubilee as part of Rolls Royce (1933 – 1993), and one of just 76 units produced for that year.

With only 4 documented custodians from new, and the most extensive and complimentary history and service file, it arrived on our Australian shores in 2019 and has resided in Victoria until being offered today.

The power and grace of the modern Continental GT blended with the undeniable design of the 90’s makes this Bentley Continental R perfect for the astute driver and collector alike.
